Many types of specialty coffees come with delicious and desirable flavors, and some may wonder how to add these delicious flavors to coffee, and in the following article, we will talk about the different flavors of specialty coffee, and how they are prepared.
What are the different flavors of specialty coffee?
Flavored coffee is the process in which coffee beans are exposed to additional flavoring throughinfusing, which improves the flavor and aroma of the coffee in beverages and makes it more palatable.(1)
What are the ways to add flavors to coffee?
There are many ways to add flavor to coffee beans, including:(1)
- Flavoring during roasting: During the roasting stage, the selected flavoring agent, which is often in the form of a liquid, or may be in the form of a spray, is added to the coffee beans, before the start of roasting, then during this stage; the added flavor enters the surface of the coffee bean, then it is absorbed to become part of the coffee flavor.
- Adding flavor after roasting: This method only works by using oil-based flavors or extracts, so that the roasted coffee beans can absorb them, and the flavor adheres to the beans, which are then left to dry.
- Adding flavor naturally: By using natural flavors, such as adding cinnamon or vanilla during the roasting process, the coffee beans absorb the flavor of these natural flavors.
- Flavored syrups: Flavored syrups are the delicious additives that are added to ready-made coffee, giving it an irresistible taste and sweetness, such as; vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, chocolate and others, which come in the form of syrups.
